Measure Area by Profile
Description
Use this Step to measure the area of the regions enclosed by the baseline and the profile.

Workflow
The process of configuring this Step is shown below:

-
Configure the input. Connect the Step ports in the graphical programming workspace or select the input under Input in the parameter configuration panel.
-
Select the baseline type and configure related parameters accordingly.
-
Select the area type.
-
Select the desired output items under Output. For an expandable output item, click ▶ and configure the Min and Max values to determine the acceptable range for the item.
Parameters
Parameter | Description | ||
---|---|---|---|
Baseline Type |
This parameter is to determine the baseline that defines the area enclosed by the input profile. Options: X-axis, single custom line, dual custom lines, profile
|
||
Area Type |
This parameter determines which regions enclosed by the profile and the baseline will have their area calculated. The area above the baseline is positive, while the area below is negative. Options: area above baseline, area below baseline (absolute), area of all (absolute), area of all(absolute)
|
||
Customize Measurement Region |
You can select this item to measure the area of customized region. When it is unselected, the Step will use all the data to calculate the area. |
Output Description
Select the output item(s) to add the output port(s) to the Step, and the corresponding data will be output after the Step is run. You can select the output according to the actual measurement requirements.
If you select an expandable output item(with a ▶ on the left), you should expand it by clicking ▶, and then set the Min and Max values to determine the acceptable range. If the output value falls within the acceptable range, the measurement item is judged as passing (OK), or else it is judged as failing (NG). |
Output item | Description |
---|---|
Area |
The area calculated according to specified Area Type. When the “baseline type” is set as Profile, only the area above the baseline will be calculated. |
Centroid X |
The X coordinate of the centroid of the area for calculation. |
Centroid Z |
The Z coordinate of the centroid of the area for calculation. |
Centroid |
The centroid of the area for calculation. |
Troubleshooting
|
CV-W6101
Error: The set “Baseline Type” is invalid.
Solution: Select a valid baseline type from the drop-down list.
CV-W6102
Error: The set “Area Type” is invalid.
Solution: Select a valid area type from the drop-down list.
CV-W6103
Error: The resolution of the two profiles is inconsistent.
Solution: Please ensure both profiles have the same resolution and then try again.
CV-W6104
Error: Unable to calculate the area because no points on the two profiles share the same X coordinate.
Possible cause: The resolution of the two profile is inconsistent, so no points on the two profiles share the same X coordinate.
Solution: Please check the two profile and ensure that there are points with same X coordinate on the two profiles.
When you use Extract Surface Section to extract profiles, please keep the length range of the profiles consistent to ensure the same X-axis resolution for the profiles.
