Configure Nominal Values for the Feature

After you create a feature, you need to configure the nominal values for the feature. This document describes how to configure nominal values for the created circle and slot feature. You can configure nominal values for your own features based on this document.

In this document, the method for configuring nominal values is to pick the created feature in the central 3D view of the Configuration interface.

  • Nominal values refers to the ideal or target dimensions of a feature, which are the standard values that the designer expects the part to achieve during the manufacturing process. The nominal values serve as a reference to determine the shape, size, and other requirements of the part.

  • Feature picking refers to manually selecting several points of a feature in the central 3D view using the mouse. This is done to determine the position and dimensions of the feature in the view and to pick the nominal values of the feature.

Configure Nominal Values for the Circle Feature

Follow the steps below to configure the nominal values:

  1. Click the created Circle01 feature in the resource tree of the current part. The parameters of Circle01 will appear in the parameter panel on the right.

  2. In the Nominal section of the parameter panel on the right, click Select from CAD to enter pickup mode. In pickup mode, the 3D view will be highlighted by blue lines.

  3. Based on the illustration in the top-left corner of the 3D view, pick three points for Circle01 to determine its nominal values.

    1. Move the mouse cursor near a circle, hold down the Ctrl key, and click to select a point on the displayed edge.

    2. Select the remaining two points in the same way. The illustration in the top-left corner of the 3D view will disappear, indicating that the Circle01 feature has been picked.

  4. After you pick Circle01, its nominal values will be displayed in the Nominal section of the parameter panel of Circle01 on the right side.

During the feature picking, you can hover the mouse over the question mark next to the 3D Visualization Operations to view more operations related to 3D view and feature picking.

Other three methods to configure nominal values:

  1. Directly specify the values.

    1. Click the created Circle01 feature. The parameters of Circle01 will appear in the parameter panel on the right.

    2. In the Nominal section of the parameter panel on the right, configure nominal parameters, such as center, orientation, etc.

  2. Obtain the values from a string.

    1. Click the created Circle01 feature. The parameters of Circle01 will appear in the parameter panel on the right.

    2. In the Nominal section of the parameter panel on the right, click Edit.

    3. In the pop-up dialog box, select From string, enter the nominal value string in the text field (if the nominal values have already been entered, users can modify them here), and then click OK.

  3. Obtain the values from points.

    1. Click the created Circle01 feature. The parameters of Circle01 will appear in the parameter panel on the right.

    2. In the Nominal section of the parameter panel on the right, click Edit.

    3. In the pop-up dialog box, select From points, enter the X, Y, and Z values for all points, and then click OK. The text field at the bottom of the dialog box displays the entered X, Y, and Z values. If the X, Y, and Z values have already been entered, you can modify them here.

Configure Nominal Values for the Slot Feature

Follow the steps below to configure the nominal values:

  1. Click the created Slot01 feature in the resource tree of the current part. The parameters of Slot01 will appear in the parameter panel on the right.

  2. In the Nominal section of the parameter panel on the right, click Select from CAD to enter pickup mode. In pickup mode, the 3D view will be highlighted by blue lines.

  3. Based on the illustration in the top-left corner of the 3D view, pick five points for Slot01 to determine its nominal values.

    1. Move the mouse cursor near a slot, hold down the Ctrl key, and click to select a point on the displayed edge.

    2. Select the remaining four points in the same way. The illustration in the top-left corner of the 3D view will disappear, indicating that the Slot01 feature has been picked.

  4. After you pick Slot01, its nominal values will be displayed in the Nominal section of the parameter panel of Slot01 on the right side.

During the feature picking, you can hover the mouse over the question mark next to the 3D Visualization Operations to view more operations related to 3D view and feature picking.
